Lake Metroparks BioClub is a nationally recognized organization through the National Association of Biology Teachers. Students will participate in a wide variety of activities and service projects that allow them to explore the biological world around them. BioClub meets every third Tuesday of the month (January 16 - Dec 17, 2024) from 6:30-8:30 at various Lake Metroparks locations. Through weekly practice athletes will learn running and walking events, long jump, softball throw, mini javelin and more! Program provides a safe environment focusing on acceptance and respect. Designed for individuals with disabilities. Meets six sessions.

The Lifeguard Class will be offered at the Environmental Learning Center at Jordan Creek Park and at Perry Pool. Students will meet at the Environmental Learning Center on May 1, 2, 9 and 10 from 5-8 pm to cover land curriculum. Students will meet at Perry Pool on May 11 and 12 from 8 am to 5pm for water skills and testing.

In addition to the class dates, e-learnings from the YMCA and Health Safety Institute totaling about 6 to 9 hours must be completed prior to the in-person class dates. The instructor will contact you leading up to the class to arrange access to the e-learnings.

Students must complete the e-learning, swimming test, and pass paper and water skills testing to attain certification. Students must be 16 years old by the last day of class. Lifeguard certification is valid for two years with Basic Life Support to be renewed annually. This is a YMCA Lifeguard Certification and includes open water training. Registration fee will be reimbursed upon a full season of lifeguarding with Lake Metroparks.

Paddle Lake Erie with Lake Metroparks in kayaks. Previous paddling experience required. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must be registered.

Take a hike with us! This educational hike is designed for us to explore the parks together. Children must hike on their own feet for one hour. No strollers permitted. Weather permitting; this program is held entirely outside.

Think you know the gorge? Joins us on a fun and challenging expedition to the lower gorge for an entirely different experience! Here you’ll discover rocks older than the dinosaurs and search for unique plants and animals that call the area home. Sturdy, waterproof boots are required.

We will learn the story of Andromeda and view it in the Star Lab. We will act out a skit in a fun, interactive way to demonstrate the story.
